INDIA’S TOP 500 COMPANIES 2019 80 Since 1997, India’s Top 500 Companies, Dun & Bradstreet India’s premier publication, has served as a compendium and a guiding handbook on the leading Indian corporates. Spread across a wide spectrum of nearly 60 diverse industries, India’s Top 500 Companies are the key drivers in contributing to the growth story of India Inc. The significance of these 500 companies emerges from the fact that they account for nearly 80% of the total BSE market capitalization. This is the 19th edition of the publication. Significance of India’s Top 500 Companies The Government of India has undertaken various initiatives to boost the economy. Initiatives, reforms and policies such as the GST, Make in India, CSR, the Consolidated FDI Policy, The RERA Act, the Recapitalisation of PSU Banks, the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, Digital India, Skill India, the Swachh Bharat Mission and the Jan Dhan Yojana, among others, were introduced to help spur India’s economic dynamo. However, we cannot overlook the critical role played by the Indian corporate sector. India Inc., especially India’s Top 500 Companies, have been ‘Catalysts’ of India’s growth story through their income generation, investments, adherence to Corporate norms, implementation of digital payments, job creation, development of infrastructure, efforts towards financial inclusion, among others.
