INDIA’S TOP 500 COMPANIES 2019 88 Aggregate Average Market Capitalisation jumps by 30.4% in FY18 The capital markets have a representative role inmirroring the country’s economic and business performance. The average market capitalization of the Top 500 companies which stood at ` 4.5 tn in the 1997 edition increased to ` 122.9 tn in the 2019 edition (this edition analyses financial performance during FY18) with a CAGR of 17.1%, reflecting the positive performance of Top 500 companies. Moreover, in FY18, the average market capitalization grew by 30.4% as compared to the previous year. During the year, the Pharmaceuticals and Tobacco Products sectors witnessed a modest y-o-y decline in their average market capitalisation. However, the Insurance sector, which has been included in the publication for the first time, posted a multi-fold growth.
