How has the COVID-19 affected your business and what were your strategies to tide over the crisis? Undoubtedly, COVID-19 has challenged the ways we conduct business. For a company, like us, operating in the civil engineering segment, the impact has been quite significant. The first lesson, of course, was to learn to work remotely. Being in a profession where most of the work is done on-site, working from home was quite challenging. But then, as they say, ‘Necessity is the mother of invention’ and it teaches you new ways of optimizing resources. We did have initial hiccups but overall, we have now managed it well. In fact, in some areas, working remotely has turned out to be more productive than working from office. As for business, there has been some impact, but despite these challenges, there has been growth too. What are some of the sustainability initiatives by your company? It has been well established in the corporate culture that sustainability and growth is best achieved in an inclusive society. At CEG, we believe that a sustainable business means working together to create growth for all. Skills development and enhancement is a continuous process here and we strongly believe that the stronger our people become, stronger and long-term is our growth. As far as the society is concerned, we have pledged to educate +200 girls from our society and have been funding their school education. Our initiatives to run a charitable hospital with free medication and consultation and a day- boarding school for specially-abled and autistic children makes us stay closer and connected to our people and keeps on motivating us to work exclusively to build a better world.
