INDIA’S TOP 500 COMPANIES 2021 169 Experts’ View South Eastern Coalfields Limited(SECL) is a flagship subsidiary company of Coal India Limited.The coal reserves of South Eastern Coalfields Limited are spread over two States, namely, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh while its HQ is located at Bilaspur(CG). It has around 67 running Mines in both Open cast and Underground categories. In the FY 2020-21 SECL has produced 150.61 MT Coal which is highest ever production by any CIL subsidiary. SECL always endeavours to adopt best global practices for promoting sustainable Coal mining in India. SECL: A Coal Company with Green heart Major Sustainable Development related activities of SECL  SECL, on an average, is taking up plantations in 250 Ha. area every year within its operating Areas. In FY 2020-21, SECL has planted 6,75,000 nos. of saplings in an area of 270.00 Hectares .  The net annual MineWater availability gained through discharge from SECL mines is approx. 802 LKL. Out of which about 398 LKL is used in internal consumption of SECL, and the balance available water is provided for community uses. In FY 2020-21, SECL provided 220 lakh Kilo litres ofWater for community uses which has benefitted 1,52,100 people while our Mine water has been used in irrigation of 2168 acres of agricultural land.  SECL has installed 25 nos. of RO water plants each of 1000 LPH capacity for nearby villages in its command Areas.  SECL has developed two Eco-Parks cum Mine Tourism sites: o AnanyaVatika at Rajnagar OC of Hasdeo Area o Pisciculture cum Mine Tourism, Bishrampur OC of Bishrampur Area.  SECL is going to install solar power plants with total capacity of 142.15 MW in next three years. It has issued “Letter of Award” for a 40 MW Solar Plant at identified Land patches in Bishrampur & Bhatgaon Areas.  Company is planning to set up plant for extraction of Sand from over burden (OB) of Opencast Mines.  Various activities are also taken up under CSR for benefit of the nearby areas. Pisciculture / Floating restaurant /Boating in an old quarry of SECL The above facilities have been created in an abandoned Quarry no. 6 of Bishrampur OC of SECL in Surajpur District of Chhattisgarh in water filled area of about 26 acres. The site has been developed by Chhattisgarh State Fisheries Department . An amount of Rs. 197.00 Lakhs was provided from Mine Closure fund by Bishrampur Area SECL towards the same. Facilities provided are Pisciculture Cages – 32 Nos, Floating Restaurant – 1 No., Motor Boat – 2 Nos. and Floating Rafts. The entire set up has been handed over by District administration to nearby villagers Self Help Group for running and maintenance. The project provides livelihood for about 30 - 40 persons of nearby villages. Good amount of fish (Pangash) are coming out from the site on regular basis (Around 800 quintals/annum) for commercial sale. Dun & Bradstreet
