INDIA’S TOP 500 COMPANIES 2022 25 Total Income v/s Net profit growth FY 2021 (Top 20 sectors) „ From the 20 top sectors; half of the sectors had reported growth in both total income and net profits, while one-fourth sectors had de-growth in both total income and net profit. „ While the aggregate total income of Top 500 companies had a de-growth of 0.3% in FY 2021, top 20 sectors has shown a total income growth of 1.3% in FY 2021. „ Net profits of these top 20 sectors also grew impressively by ~51% in FY 2021, driven by leading sectors such as Banks, Oil-refining and marketing, and commodities linked sectors such as Iron & Steel, Mining - metals & minerals, Non-Ferrous Metals.  Banking sector net profit growth was driven by lower provisioning and lower cost of funds.  Net profit growth of Oil – refining and marketing improved due to lower crude oil prices, resulting in negligible under recoveries.  Profits of commodities linked sector witnessed strong improvement in realization driving net profit growth for FY 2021. „ A total of five sectors such as Automobiles – 2W/3W, Auto components, Gas – processing, transmission and marketing, Oil & gas exploration and Food and Beverages reported de-growth for both total income and net profit.  Automobiles – 2W/3W and Auto components witnessed sub-par growth impacted by 13.5% de- growth in domestic auto sales for FY 2021  Oil & gas exploration and Gas – processing, transmission and marketing sectors were impacted due to lower crude and gas prices impacting their top and bottom line for FY 2021.
