INDIA’S TOP 500 COMPANIES 2022 44 Experts’ View World Trade Center (WTC) Mumbai recently celebrated its Golden Jubilee in 2020. How would you summarize this journey of more than five decades? MVIRDC is the realization of Bharat Ratna Sir Dr. M. Visvesvaraya’s vision to build an international Trade Promotion Center in the city of Mumbai. The Center attained several milestones in recent years such as installation of state- of-the art 250 kwp + 100 kwp solar roof top panel, installing composting plant, PET Bottle crusher machine and Eco-bins for recycling electronic devices. MVIRDC has connected over 1,000 exhibitors to global buyers through its new age digital platform www.wetrade.org since 2020. The Center is the proud recipient of ‘Exhibition Excellence Award’ consecutively from2017 to 2020 and it was also conferred Certificate of Appreciation by Hon’ble Union Minister for MSME Shri. Narayan Rane for supporting MSMEs and women entrepreneurs in 2022. As part of community service, MVIRDC supports various government institutions with essential items and services. The Center has built shelters for outstation patients and relatives visiting hospitals in the city. MVIRDC provided space at no cost for one of the largest COVID vaccine centers in South Mumbai. The Center financially supported Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai for vaccinating more than 16,500 people in the city. We also distributed food grains to underprivileged and economically weaker sections of the society during COVID pandemic, besides providing raincoats to constables and laptops to police officials. MVIRDC’s community services were recognized by Hon’ble Governor of Maharashtra by bestowing Certificate of Appreciation. WTC Mumbai provides 360 0 trade infrastructure, which is ideal to facilitate international trade. Could you throw some light on the services provided by WTC? MVIRDC is the “One Stop” multi- dimensional trade promotion organization catering to all aspects of trade facilitation. The Center provides commercial spaces for financial institutions, Corporate Houses, MSMEs and start-up enterprises, besides offering multifarious venues for versatile events such as business conventions, exhibitions, conferences and arbitrations. India’s prominent private and public sector organizations such as Coal India, MIDC, EXIM Bank, Tata Sons, ITC, Reserve Bank of India, State Bank of India and IDBI Bank are tenants of MVIRDC. The other important verticals of trade services are a full-fledged Trade Promotion department and a vibrant Research Department. The Research Department supports industry in taking strategic business decisions by providing trade intelligence, analytical reports on potential markets, tariff and non-tariff barriers and by conducting sectoral studies from time to time. MVIRDC WTC Mumbai is India’s first World Trade Center to be the member of WTCA New York, which facilitates connections with 320 WTCs across 90 countries representing more than one million businesses. MVIRDC organizes over 60 trade events annually, which includes large number of inbound trade missions, B2B meetings, flagship Annual programs such as Global Economic Summit, World Trade Expo and World Trade Week. We have also hosted WTCA General Assembly, WTCA Asia Pacific Meet and WTCA Spring Meet in the past. Could you brief us about Post Graduate Diploma & Certificate courses offered by WTC? World Trade Center Mumbai – Academy of International Trade introduced Export- Import Management Courses way back in 1989, well before the opening up of the Indian economy. Currently, the Center offers 6-month and 3-month Diploma courses on foreign trade, logistics and Forex Risk Management. The Academy also offers Management Development Programs, Global Market Access Programs and courses on foreign languages. Specifically, the Academy runs Basic Practical Business Conversations Course and Advance Practical Business Conversations Courses for imparting communication skills in cross-border trade.
