XL Overview The strength of an economy can be gauged from the performance of a good financial market, which helps to channelize the savings of the people into diverse investment opportunities. In India, the mutual funds are playing a major role by bringing stability to the financial markets and through efficient resource mobilization from various sectors. In the last two decades, the mutual fund industry is growing in a notable way by an increase in number of folios and Asset under Management (AUM). As compared to the previous year, the AUM of the mutual funds have witnessed a growth of 11.4% in fiscal 2019. The industry saw gross resources mobilization to the tune of ` 243.9 lakh crore during fiscal 2019 compared to ` 210.0 lakh crore during fiscal 2018. The AUM of mutual fund industry grew by 11.4% to ` 23.8 lakh crore at the end of March 2019 from ` 21.4 lakh crore at the end of March 2018. The net resources mobilized by all mutual funds in India were ` 1.1 lakh crore during fiscal 2019. Sector-wise resource mobilization Private sector mutual funds continued to retain their dominance in the mutual fund industry in fiscal 2019 as well, with a share of 80.6% in gross resource mobilization and 56.1% in net resource mobilization. The gross resource mobilization by the private sector mutual funds rose by 13.1% to ` 196.5 lakh crore in fiscal 2019, while that by public sector mutual funds rose by 31.1% to ` 47.4 lakh crore in fiscal 2019 as compared to the last year. The share of public sector mutual funds in gross resource mobilization increased to 19.4% during fiscal 2019 from 17.2% in the previous year. Similarly, the share of public sector mutual funds in net resource mobilization increased to 43.9% in fiscal 2019 from 15.9% in the previous year.
