MCL contributes approximately 20% of coal production to the nation. MCL is spread over in two major coalfields, Talcher Coalfields in Angul district and IB coalfields in Sundergarh and Jharsuguda district; while its corporate Headquarter is in Sambalpur, Odisha. In line with growing energy demand of the nation, MCL is focusing on enhancing coal production. During 2020-21 MCL scaled a new peak in coal production by reaching 148 MT. MCL believes in improving sustainability, modernisation of technology in operations and supply of quality coal to consumers in an eco- friendly manner. MCL is a pioneer in introduction of clean technologies, and was first to introduce Surface Miners for Coal production in India. The company has also setup a 2 MW Solar power plant as a pilot project at its Headquarter. As a responsible Miner, MCL has made conscientious efforts to recognise community around its operational area and committed itself to sustainable development. There has been significant expansion in the reach of MCL within the community. The company has extensively spent on health, education, water supply, sanitation under CSR. Key Highlights • Achieved highest ever coal production of 148 MT, with an annual growth of 5.5% over last year and achieved highest ever Overburden removal of 174 M.cum, surpassing its previous best of 138 M.cum in FY 2019-20, with a growth of 2% over last year. • MCL has implemented a Robotic Nozzle jet to control dust pollution and combat incidents of fire. In addition, 18 Mobile Fog Cannons of 50 Mtr throw,100 Fog Cannon of 100 Mtr throw 21 Road Sweeping Machines to combat dust pollution have been inducted in its mining operations. • Blast-free overburden removal through Xcentric Ripper was introduced first in MCL at Hingula Mine. This will eliminate drilling, blasting and secondary crushing requirement. • MCL has spent ` 140 crores under its CSR for handling COVID-19. It funded a State-of-the-art Covid hospital in Bhubaneswar. MCL has been conferred National CSR Award by President of India and has won other awards for its contribution to CSR. • MCL has formed an SPV called MCRL with stakes from MCL, IDCO and IRCON to create rail infrastructure for evacuation of Coal.
