He further adds the development of stakeholders is a vital index in the Company’s growth. He adds the management is taking various steps to ensure that CCL becomes a role model in the country in best practices of sustainable mining and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. The Company’s Director (Personnel), Shri P.V.K.R. Mallikarjuna Rao states CCL has been conscientious in the discharge of its obligations to the various stakeholders. He says that the company is committed to playing a pro-active role in the socio-economic development of the country. He further adds that during the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Company was at the forefront to support the Government in its fight against the Corona Pandemic. The Company has given ` 20 crore to the State Disaster Management Fund in Jharkhand to bolster the fight against COVID-19. CCL has signed an MOU of about ` 10 crore with eight district administrations of the state to augment the health infrastructure in these districts. Over 1,750 Covid patients have been successfully treated in the hospitals of the Company. As a responsible corporate citizen, CCL has taken all measures to align CSR with its approach towards sustainable development. The thrust of the initiatives is on activities designed to improve community health, women’s empowerment, drinking water facilities, sustainable livelihood, education, sanitation, skill development and promotion of sports and games. The Company endeavours to expand its CSR footprint in the communities that it serves and to generate wider benefits for them. The Company has spent over ` 480 crore on CSR since April 2014. CCL Ke Lal & Ladli is a flagship scheme of the Company in the education sector. CCL provides opportunities to talented, diligent and meritorious children from underprivileged background to enter top engineering colleges of India. The children are selected based on an entrance examination and are provided free lodging, boarding, schooling and coaching for IIT and other engineering entrance exams by engineers of CCL, who are IIT graduates. Recently, Matul Baghel, a student of this scheme, joined Coal India as a Mining Engineer. The Sports Academy (JSSPS) at Khelgaon, Ranchi was established in 2016 as a joint initiative of CCL and the State Government of Jharkhand. This CSR initiative of CCL aims at lending wings to the dreams of the children of the state, nurturing them holistically so that they can scale great heights in sports. At present, 437 sports cadets, about 96% of whom belong to the scheduled castes, scheduled tribes and other backward communities, are undergoing training. They have won 702 medals, in various state, national and international tournaments. The company also organizes multiple skill development training activities throughout its operational areas for the benefit of the society. The success of projects like CCL Ke Lal-Laadli, Kayakalp Public School, Sports Academy, Khelgaon, etc., are testimony of the Company’s earnest efforts towards holistic development of the community. The Company is showing the way in breaking glass ceilings and gender empowerment. The women employees of the Company have been shouldering the responsibilities ranging from doctors to security personal, heavy machine operators and have excelled in every field. For the first time in the history of Coal India Ltd, two women engineers in mining and excavation discipline joined the holding company and were posted in CCL, Jharkhand. The higher management for gainful utilization of manpower, posted both the young engineers in the mines/projects for carrying out mining activities to meet the energy requirement of the Nation.
