8 India marked its 75 years of freedom on August 15, 2022. Our journey in last 75 years has become a great example of an impressive growth story which overcame massive challenges and has now emerged as the 5th largest economy in the world. In this journey towards becoming a developed economy, Indian Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) have played a critical role. The Industrial Policy of 1948 envisaged creation of Central Public Sector Undertakings (CPSUs) to augment industrial base, boost domestic investments & infrastructure and provide employment. Additionally, by being engines of Indian government’s mission to achieve social upliftment, inclusive growth and self-sufficiency, CPSUs played an important role in overall socio-economic development of the nation. CPSUs possess the unique ability to look beyond short-term commercial interest to invest in local assets and resources to help country maximise its long-term economic gains.
