9 2021 1999 1996 1991- 1992 1981 1971 1969 1956 1951 1948 Industrial policy Resolution (IPR) of 1948 envisaged development of core sectors through the public enterprises IPR of 1956 further gave primacy to the state-owned enterprises in 17 industrial sectors Number of PSUs increased to 87 in 1971 31 selected PSUs disinvested for ` 30.4 bn The Department of Disinvestment was set up There were 5 PSUs in 1951 Nationalisation of banks followed by a similar move in coal mining, crude oil refining & marketing, textiles and other sectors Number of PSUs almost doubled to 168 in a decade Set up of the Disinvestment Commission, which recommended disinvestment of 57 PSUs The disinvestment activity slowed down considerably 2011 onwards.
