The Government of India has initiated ‘Digital India’ mission to capitalize on the benefits of technological advancement and to ensure government services aremade available to citizens electronically.Various CPSUs are also taking a ‘Digital First’ approach to transform their businesses.With this backdrop, the factors that have driven digital transformation of CPSUs in the last few years needs to be assessed. Factors driving digital transformation in CPSUs Growing need for process improvement: The growing need for process improvement is one of the key factors that has led for the adoption of digital technology by CPSUs. Indian CPSUs have identified several areas including operations & maintenance, marketing, finance, project management and monitoring amongst others where digital technology can be used effectively for process improvement. Heightened pressure related to project execution: The increased scale of projects, substantially enhanced investments and reduced timelines have led to heightened pressure on project execution front, which in turn has driven digital transformation amongst CPSUs.
