Experts’ View 44 India’s Top PSUs 2022 GRSE recently became the only Company to receive Green Channel Certification by Defence Ministry. How would you describe this achievement? What are some othermilestones achievedby the company in recent years? This is a remarkable achievement considering the fact that, GRSE is the only organization in India qualified by DGQA, under the prestigious Green Channel Certification for the Bailey Type Portable Steel Bridges. So far, GRSE has supplied more than 5,500 portable steel bridges to Indian Armed Forces, State and Central Government and friendly neighborhood countries. The company reported the highest ever revenues of ` 1,758 crores for FY22, a 54 % growth on-year. The shipyard is currently constructing 24 ships across seven prestigious projects of the Indian Navy, Indian Coast Guard, Govt. of West Bengal & foreign nations. The shipyard is equipped with Advanced Modular Integrated Shipbuilding Technology in line with the best in the world, aiding in the construction of Advanced Frigates P17A. GRSE has made commendable progress by successfully incorporating a high percentage of indigenous equipment fit on board its ships, ASW Corvettes and Landing Craft Utility (LCU) ships having 90% indigenous content. What are the digital innovative initiatives taken by your company in recent years? To maintain its competitive edge, the company is shifting to smart manufacturing (Industry 4.0), through thrust on innovations in automation, Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Limited robotics and the industrial internet of things. It is also introducing AI, ML, Interoperability and secured connectivity enabling real time monitoring. In its journey towards digitization, GRSE in collaboration with IIT Kharagpur, has developed an AI Enabled Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) mechanismwhich aims to replace manual inspection with automated inspection. Adoptingthe latest technology,GRSEhasestablished an Artificial Intelligence (AI) enabled high end CCTV network across its five units in Kolkata. GRSE has freshly bagged prestigious orders for making seven vessels for foreign countries. How does the company’s order book look like? What is your company’s growth strategy for next 3-5 years? GRSE, has so far delivered 107 warships to Indian Navy, Indian Coast Guard, Mauritius & foreign nations & is the only Indian shipyard to achieve this Centennial Mark. The 1st warship for export, an Offshore Patrol Vessel by India was delivered by GRSE to Mauritius in 2014. We delivered Fast Patrol Vessel to the Seychelles Coast Guard in 2021. The shipyard is concurrently building a cargo cum passenger ferry vessel for Cooperative Republic of Guyana and six patrol boats for Government of Bangladesh. GRSE was the only shipyard to get the ‘Excellent’ rating in the MoU performance evaluation for FY21. With a healthy order book of approx. ` 24,000 crore and some in the pipeline, we are looking at a very high growth in turnover in next few years.
