Experts’ View 45 India’s Top PSUs 2022 How would you describe the journey of your company since its inception? What are some of the key milestones of the company in recent years? The Odisha Mining Corporation Limited (OMC) was incorporated on 16.05.1956 as a Joint Venture Company of Govt. of Odisha and Govt. of India. In 1961, it became a fully owned state PSU of Govt of Odisha. OMC is the first public sector undertaking in the nation’s mining sector & is the largest state mining PSU in India. In 2003, OMC got certified as an ISO 9001:2000 organisation. In 2004, OMC was one of the 1st mining companies in India to implement SAP. In 2007, OMC crossed revenue of INR 1,000 crore. In 2013, OMC became a Gold Category State PSU. In 2021, OMC crossed revenue of INR 5,000 crore for the first time. In 2022, OMC crossed revenue of INR 17,000 crore almost improving its performance by three-fold over the last financial year & became the 5th largest Iron Ore producer of the country. The journey since inception has been phenomenal & transformational in every aspect of business operation. What role has technology / digital transformation played in transforming your organization? OMC started its Digital Transformation journey since the year 2020 with a strong portfolio of IT projects implemented & many more in the pipeline. The Customer Integrated Management System (CIMS) has provided a seamless & hassle-free IT platform for our customers to do all business transactions Odisha Mining Corporation Limited from anywhere anytime. The Industrial Internet of Things (IIOT) based Stockyard management System (SMS) ensured touchless uninterrupted ore despatch from the mines during COVID. The Traffic Management System has transformed the evacuation & safety system tremendously. Few other Digital Transformation projects such as E-Office, Compliance Management System (CMS), Vendor Invoice Management System (VIMS), Fleet Management System (FMS) have completely transformed the way we used to do business. Few more upcoming projects such as Human Resource Management System (HRMS), Safety Management System (SMS), IT based Management Information System (MIS) will go a long way in propelling our perennial journey towards excellence. Our thrust on Digital Transformation has not only helped catapult our annual production level from 16.2 million ton in FY20 to 31.7 million ton in FY22 & annual sales level from 16.8 million ton in FY20 to 27.7 million ton in FY22 but also has been a game changer for a holistic business transformation. What is your company’s growth strategy for next 3-5 years? Over next 3-5 years, OMC aims to achieve a total Annual production in upwards of 80 million Ton of Ore & be among the top 3 ore producers of the country.
