In February 2006, for the first time Biesse Group launched its first production site outside Italy and it was in India. The objective of the facility in India was to produce technologically advanced machines to satisfy regional demands. The strategic investments were implemented with a forward- looking strategy to create the most advanced production plant for manufacturing wood processing machines & systems in India. Biesse India has been a stellar success for the Group Headquarters in Italy and its Subsidiaries, an achievement that is well-perceived and endorsed in every country where Biesse operates. Kindly elaborate on your company’s innovation initiatives. What kind of outcomes have these initiatives helped the company derive? Development of a strong local team for New Product Development and synergistic networking with the parent company in Italy has helped to quickly absorb latest technologies and swiftly bring new products that create value for customers. Kaizen culture is ingrained not only in shop floor but is a company-wide philosophy which is sustaining continuous improvement. Six Sigma initiatives, TPM and a robust quality system is backbone of thriving manufacturing excellence in the company. We have developed a new Service Support mobile App exclusively for our customers. Using this uniquemobile app, our customers can carry out preventive maintenance and troubleshooting of their Biesse machines and stay abreast of latest industry news and events. Biesse is closely working with Institutions like IWST, IIID and Universities to promote Woodworking Technologies in India on par with the latest trends in Europe. Machines designed and produced here are compliant for Industry 4.0 requirements promoting state of the art “Made in India” product accepted world-wide in over 60 countries spread across all the continents. Biesse India is now foraying to design and produce CNC Glass Cutting machines meeting the growing demands of the industry. Innovative human resources strategies have benefited in driving high performance teams, creating a common language across the company and building a strong ‘One Biesse’ culture through shared experiences. How has the COVID-19 pandemic impacted business? What are the strategies that the company has deployed to tide over this crisis? It has been a challenging time for all of us where our core customer values, team working ethos and a strong commitment towards safety for all nurtured our response and paved way in our day to day working. Other than the lockdown enforced by the government and few weeks of supply chain mobilization, the factory Operation were nearly normal. We introduced remote working for the staff providing workstations at their homes while those in frontline at factory and service support played a crucial role in to maintain business continuity with their commitment and discipline. To overcome the unique challenge posed by pandemic we remain focussed on three priority areas. First, Safety for all – Employees, their families, Suppliers, customers and community around us. Second, business continuity is key. We focussed our efforts on securing supplies, manufacturing and logistics every step of the way.
