Leading Mid-Corporates of India 2020 E - 23 Experts' View Please provide a brief background of the company and its operations. Altair is at the forefront of enabling companies to develop better products by deploying data analytics, simulation and high-performance computing technologies across the product development journey. Altair grew up in Detroit, in the haydays of automotive growth, later spreading wings to aerospace and today has a play in almost all industries including in banking and finance providing ML and AI technologies as part of its data analytics portfolio. Indian operations have seen tremendous growth over two decades and rank in the top five countries for Altair globally. Kindly elaborate on your company’s innovation initiatives. What kind of outcomes have these Altair India initiatives helped the company derive? Startup Initiative: Altair in India has been very proactive in nurturing the startup ecosystem. Altair has partnered with Start-up India (part of Invest India initiative by Govt. of India) to select through a contest, budding product-based startup companies, which would benefit from the use of simulation technologies early in design to build better products. Altair provides cutting-edge technologies to startups during their development phase, along with hands on mentorship for the entrepreneurs. Skilling: In these challenging days, where new skills have to be learnt every day, Altair provides on-line Learning & Certification programs to anyone who desires to learn new simulation and data analytics techniques. This is open to students as well as working professionals desiring to learn a new skill. SimulationDrivenDesign: Simulation, which is akin to testing in the virtual world, is used downstream after the product design (CAD) is frozen. This is obviously a sequential process with inherent delays built in. In these days of rapid change where “Go- to Market” determines a product’s success or failure, it is imperative that the design is always first time right. By front loading our simulation technology with CAD kernels, we are able to suggest a final design which has already passed through a simulation study. This technology has been brought to market under the brand, Altair Inspire TM . This innovative technology has been leveraged by prestigious organizations in space, aerospace, automotive and consumer durable industry to be the “First among Equals”. This has obviously helped Altair maintain long-term double-digit growth rates. What is the company’s growth strategy over the next 3-5 years? Altair and its leadership have been very strong at envisioning the future. Altair has been at the forefront when it comes to adapting change. We see that traditional product design will soon evolve into smart product design, as all product will constitute a significant amount of electronics in them. That said any product which has motion and controls – read mechatronics – is already and will play a much more substantial role, especially in the transportation industry. “Data is the new oil” as they say. But unlike oil, it is available to all – across and with organizations.
