19 Experts' View Leading Mid-Corporates of India 2021 How would you describe the journey of your company since its inception? What are some of the key milestones of the company in recent years? Autocomp Corporation Panse Private Limited -- Is amidsizeautocomponentmanufacturer & with global customer base. We have 9 plants in India. Pune is the HQ with 4 plants. Pantnagar, Uttarakhand have 3 plants & One plant is at Chennai. We have 300 qualified engineers, technicians with us & a host of professionals in every walk of business. We enjoy good financial rating from banks & rating agencies. We take pride in having good governance . The enterprise was established in mid- eighties. My previous stint with Tata Motors was an unique experience & introduced me to all aspects of business, also sowed seeds of our enterprise. The entire shop floor activity was quite overwhelming & I was convinced that I could do much more if I were on my own. A) The initial years till 1990 were typical “ Do it All & Do it Yourself”. B) A conscious decision to venture into heavy duty pressing ensured our entry into the next level of manufacturing. I recollect making numerous visits to Germany to ensure smooth sailing of the project. The company won many accolades in quality such as VDA 6.3 certification as required by Mercedes, VW, BMW etc. D) We took quantum jump in 2007 when plant at, Uttarakhand was set up. Multi locational plant management was the new learning. This plant now contributes to 30 % of total sales. The investment was heavy but the risk paid off. E) The well-equipped tool room was hived off into an independent company as a different vertical to be a world class dies & mold making tool room. We gave more thrust on soft talent than machines. Today we boast of a team of tool designers & also product designers who are experts in 3D simulation. F) A JV was also formed with an European company in the high tech area of rubber to metal bonded suspension bushes. This engineering product is required in material handling, construction industry. G) As a sequel of global vision we developed business with Jaguar Land Rover & today we are we are the largest supplier to JLR from India. The aspirational brands such as Range Rover, Evoque & Defender use our seat structures, body & chassis assemblies. We do product design , engineering & testing as full service supplier. Along with product design & engg we also conducted almost 400 physical tests with ARAI, the premium testing agency in India & also few tests in UK. This experience prompted us to take the next logical step – first to have a ware house in Europe, next step is to have a manufacturing facility. With our footprint overseas we now have a global reach. What are some of the key products / services offered by the company? What is your company’s growth strategy for next 3-5 years? Their product range includes Body & Chassis assemblies for Cars , Commercial vehicles & seat Structures & Mechanisms, Motorcycle Frames & Tractor panels for global industry. Light weighting using high strength materials for fuel efficiency is the theme. We are making focused efforts in EV segment with focus on battery packaging. Total Productive Management ( TPM ) provides the framework for organizing for manufacturing excellence. The differentiation comes being a one stop shop : product / process design, prototyping, tool making, mass production &Technology adaptation.
