Leading SMEs of India 2020

E - 4 Leading SMEs of India 2020 Experts' View What has been the success mantra of AWS? As Amazon, our goal is to be earth’s most customer-centric company. And everything we do is driven by our customers’ requirements. For example, 90% to 95% of what we build in AWS is driven by what customers tell us they want, and the rest is what we invent on their behalf. Customers select AWS because we set out to earn their trust every day, and are committed to our customers’ success. Our ability to innovate for our customers is one of the reasons our customers place their faith in us. With over 14+ years of experience supporting customer innovation in the cloud, and millions of active customers around the world running a wide variety of use cases, AWS has the most operational experience, at greater scale, than any other cloud provider. Kindly elaborate on AWS’ innovation initiatives. Amazon Internet Services Private Limited What kind of outcomes have these initiatives helped the company derive? Our mental model on innovation is simple. Innovation requires two things: the ability to try a lot of experiments, and not having to live with the collateral damage of failure. What do we mean by experiments? ƒ ƒ An experiment is when you actively try out new ideas by creating prototypes or minimum viable products (MVPs), constantly iterating, changing your mind, and abandoning the experiment if things don’t work out ƒ ƒ If we know in advance to a high certainty how an experiment will play out, it is not really categorized as an experiment ƒ ƒ This requires what we refer to as “learning to be comfortable with being uncomfortable” given the outcomes of a hypothesis are not known This approach has helped us with: ƒ ƒ Continuous innovation on platform and services: AWS has more services (175 fully featured services), and more features within those services, than any other cloud provider – by a large amount. AWS is also innovating faster than anyone else, and that gap in capability continues to expand ƒ ƒ Helping customers with cost savings and flexibility: We help our customers to continuously lower their total cost of ownership (TCO) by passing on the cost benefits derived from our economies of scale. To illustrate this, AWS has done more than 85 price reductions over the last 14 years and many of these are done even when there isn’t a critical business imperative to do so ƒ ƒ Build agility and elasticity to ward off uncertainty: AWS has unmatched experience, maturity, reliability, security, and performance. We’re innovating at an unmatched pace that continues to accelerate every year, allowing customers to take advantage of the latest technologies and automation to deliver value for their business. Years of listening and learning from our customers and our commitment to constant iteration help us deliver superior operational performance that customers can depend on for their most important workloads ƒ ƒ Making customers go global in minutes: The AWS global infrastructure delivers a cloud infrastructure companies can depend on—no matter their size, changing needs, or challenges.
