44 | Unleashing Power of Data DECODING “THE DIGITAL PERSONAL DATA PROTECTION ACT, 2023” T he Digital Personal Data Protection Bill, 2023 is a c omp r e h e n s i v e d a t a protection legislation that was passed by the Indian Parliament on August 9, 2023, and came into force as an Act on August 11, 2023. The Act is designed to protect the privacy of individuals’ digital personal data and to give them control over how their data is collected, used, and shared. The Act defines digital personal data as any data that can be used to identify an individual directly or indirectly. This includes data such as name, address, email address, phone number, date of birth, and financial information.
