D&B announces SME Business Excellence Awards 2016

Dun & Bradstreet, the world’s leading provider of global business information, knowledge and insight announced the ‘D&B SME Business Excellence Awards 2016’. The awards felicitated 23 of India’s leading Small and Medium Enterprises of India for their significant achievement and contribution over the years. The occasion also marked the launch of Dun & Bradstreet’s premier publication, Leading SMEs of India 2016.

Speaking on the release of the publication, Mr. Kaushal Sampat, President  & MD – India, Dun and Bradstreet said, “The publication profiles 100 SMEs and we call these companies ‘The Select 100’, which have shown consistent performance over the past two years (i.e. FY14 - FY16) and show high degree of resiliency for better growth prospects. According to our study, aggregate net profit in FY16 of these companies recorded a growth of more than 50% as against growth of 8% of top 1000 listed companies. Further, aggregate export revenue grew by 26% in FY16 as compared to 19% growth in FY15. The performance at export front is really heartening especially when India’s exports have declined by average 8.5% in last 2 years.”

“Moreover, it was encouraging to know that over 60% of the companies have obtained credit ratings - thus dispelling the myth that SMEs do not believe in financial risk mitigation”, he further added.  

The publication, ‘Leading SMEs of India 2016’ was released by Shri Haribhai P Chaudhary, Honourable Minister of State for Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises, Government of India, Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal, Honourable Minister of State for Finance & Corporate Affairs, Government of India and Mr. Vishwavir Ahuja, Managing Director & CEO, RBL Bank Limited. Also present at the event were Mr. Deepak Agrawal, Associate Director, Indian School of Business, Mr. Alok Kumar, Founder, Aptitude Labs along with leading names from the SME industry.

About ‘Leading SMEs of India 2016’

The publication profiles 23 award winners of “Dun & Bradstreet - RBL Bank Limited SME Business Excellence Awards 2016” and also features 77 high performing businesses that participated in the awards process which have shown strong performance and potential for the future. These high performing 100 SMEs and Mid Corporates (i.e. the Select 100) are used for the purpose of our analysis presented in the publication. They belong to manufacturing and services sectors including engineering & machinery, chemicals & pharmaceuticals, electrical and electronic goods, plastic and plastic products, IT & ITeS, professional & business services and textiles & garments among others.

Key highlights of the performance of the Select 100:

·         Nearly 50% of the Select 100 have turnover below Rs. 1,000 mn

·         Aggregate net sales of the Select 100 grew by nearly 15% in FY16

·         Nearly 50% of enterprises were involved in export of goods and services. Aggregate export revenue accounted for 32.8% of the

          aggregate total turnover of Select 100 in FY16.

·         Net Profit Margin (NPM) has improved from around 4.8% in FY15 to 6.9% in FY16. 72% of Select 100 showed improvement in NPM

·         Nearly 55% of the Select 100 enterprises recorded Return on Equity (RoE) above 20% in FY16
